The International Boxing Association (AIBA), based in Lausanne, was founded in 1946. It has been the world governing body of amateur boxing but its position became doubtful in June 2019 when the International Olympic Committee suspended its recognition of AIBA because of concerns about its governance. As a result, AIBA are currently banned from any involvement in the Olympic Games and the IOC has itself taken over management of boxing qualification for the 2020 Olympics.
