Need more identity info
Hi, XXXX:

Thank you for your request to join Citizendium -- we are looking forward to your joining us! However, since you made your application using a free email account, we need a way to verify your identity which is a key requirement for joining Citizendium. So please take a few minutes to help us verify your identity by any one of these ways:

(1) An email account from any company, organization or university Internet web page that contains a portion of your real name would be acceptable.

(2) Any Internet web page that uses the free email address you gave us and that identifies you by your full real name somewhere on that web page.

(3) A scan or a picture of your driver's license or other identity card.

(4) Also, you could use the "BeenVerified" link on our application page (at http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/Special:RequestAccount), go through their (free) process, and send us the link to your BeenVerified page.

Please help us to verify your identity and we look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

Message 1 for Confirmed Author Accounts
Hello, Hermann:

I am pleased to welcome you as an author in Citizendium's Biology, Business and Chemistry workgroups. Actually, as an author, you are free to participate in any of our workgroups.

The first thing you should do after you log in with your password is to access your user page and your user talk page. Use the search box in the left-hand vertical column of any Citizendium page, and enter: "User:Hermann A.M. Mucke" (without the quote marks). That will take you to your user page. Near the top of your user page is a "discussion" tab. Click on it and you will be at your user Talk page where you will find our automatic welcome message and perhaps some more personal welcomes.

After you have actively contributed content and/or actively collaborated in creating new content for about 5 months, then would be the time to request an editorship.

I would strongly urge you to expand your biography on your user page so that our members can get well acquainted with you.

Welcome aboard!

Message 2 for Editor Applicants
Hello, XXXX:

You have applied to be both an Author and an Editor, and I am pleased to welcome you as an active participant in Citizendium! As of this moment you have been confirmed as an Author and your name has been added to those Workgroups for which you indicated an interest. As an Author, however, you will be free to contribute to any of our articles, both by writing new material and by editing previously written material, regardless of which Workgroups they belong to.

Your request for an Editorship will be carefully considered after you have emailed me (see email address below) a publicly revealable biography that includes the details of the qualifications that are the basis for your application and that can be made permanently available for public viewing on your profile page, which Citizendium calls your User Page. Your biography should include:

1. your university or college academic degrees (along with the relevant dates); and/or

2. your working experiences (along with the relevant dates); and

3. any other items that furnish evidence of your expertise relevant to the XXXX Workgroups for which you are seeking Editor status

Separately from your biography, please provide a statement that you agree to keep this information publicly available on your User Page.

You may subsequently augment the biography on your User Page and subsequently add, delete, or reformat that augmented text in any way you wish except that the information you provide for (1) and/or (2) and (3) above must always remain publicly available on your User page.

(If I should have questions concerning your data I will ask you for clarification.)

The first thing you should do after you log in with your password is to access your User page and your User Talk page. Use the search box in the left-hand vertical column of any Citizendium page, and enter: "User:XXXXXXXX" (without the quotation marks and with no space after the colon). That will take you to your User page. Near the top of your User page is a "Discussion" tab. Click on it and you will be at your User Talk page, where you will find our automatic welcome message and perhaps some additional personal welcomes.

Welcome aboard, and feel free to contact me for help whenever you wish!

Message for Unconfirmed Accounts
Hi, XXXX:

We need a confirmed email address from you. Are you *sure* that you have looked in your email program's spam folder, or trash folder, for our automated reply? You need to find our reply and then click on the confirm line.

Thanks,

Caution of a new member
Hello, Levan:

I am pleased to welcome you as an author in Citizendium's Economics, History and Politics workgroups. Actually, as an author, you are free to participate in any of our workgroups.

After you have been an active contributor for about 5-6 months, and demonstrated your willingness to collaborate with others, then you might wish to ask for an editorship.

The first thing you should do after you log in with your password is to access your user page and your user talk page. Use the search box in the left-hand vertical column of any Citizendium page, and enter: "User:Levan Ramishvili" (without the quote marks). That will take you to your user page. Near the top of your user page is a "discussion" tab. Click on it and you will be at your user Talk page where you will find our automatic welcome message and perhaps some more personal welcomes.

I spent quite a bit of time researching you in Wikipedia and by Googling. Having done so, I would caution you not to join us with a pre-conceived "agenda" or with the intention of "promoting" certain organizations or activist movements. We would welcome article's about Georgia, its history and its notable people ... but we will insist on neutral, unbiased and well-referenced facts in English. With that caution in mind, welcome aboard!

Recruitment letter
Dear colleagues,
The on-line encyclopedia "Citizendium" at http://en.citizendium.org needs your help. It is a non-profit volunteer project to build a free online information resource. It is like Wikipedia but with more input from professionals like yourselves.
Prospective authors and/or editors in Citizendium are asked to use their real names (anonymous names are not used) and to submit brief professional biographies when they register to participate. Many of the current particpants are university professors and other professionals.
New members may select to be authors or editors (or both) in their fields of expertise. All articles created in the Citizendium encyclopedia are open to be freely read by anyone, but they may only be edited or revised by the registered members. As a result, articles in the Citizendium receive much more expert attention than do articles in Wikipedia.
Articles deemed to be of high quality by the members are denoted as "Approved" articles. Articles which have not yet been approved are considered to be draft articles.
The atmosphere in Citizendium is very much more collegial than in Wikipedia and there simply is none of the vandalism of articles that plagues Wikipedia where anyone is allowed to revise articles. The primary emphasis in Citizendium is to collaborate in the development and review of articles by discussion rather than by unilaterally making significant revisions.
Visit us and look at the Chemical Engineering articles at http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/Category:Chemical_Engineering_Subgroup. We need more engineering authors as well as more engineering editors to provide expert guidance in developing new articles and improving some of the current articles.
Please consider joining Citizendium, if only to check out the atmosphere. If you join us, your work will be respected because our community will have confidence in your expertise.
We look forward to seeing you on Citizendium ... and we need your help!!
If you are retired and looking for a way to give back some of your knowledge and experience, Citizendium is a wonderful way to do so.
Regards, Milton Beychok
Sandbox notice
As a fellow Chemical Engineer, I want to offer you a warm welcome! Please visit the :Category:Chemical Engineering Subgroup to see all of the Chemical Engineering articles that we already have. I am going to take the libery of making you a member of that subgroup. If you need any help at any time, please contact me on my Talk page at here.
I have also taken the liberty of creating a personal sandbox page for you. To access your sandbox, just click on the link labeled My sandbox in the upper, left-hand corner of your User page. Once you get there, you can click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and you can:
* Practice writing articles in the Wiki markup language.
* If you already know the Wiki markup language, you can draft any articles you want to write and keep changing them until you are completely satisfied with them ... and then you can create a new article by cutting and pasting the sandbox article into the new one.
* You can invite other Citizens to visit your sandbox, review a prospective article that you wrote in sandbox, and ask for their comments/critique before you proceed to cut and paste it into a new article.
Don't know what the Wiki markup language is? Click ==>CZ:How to edit an article Another excellent way to learn the Wiki markup coding is to click on the "Edit" tab at the top of any article and see how the markup coding was used there.
Enjoy! Milton Beychok 18:56, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Image:Russian Blue 001.gif was uploaded from Commons without correct real name of author
Left
The subject image was uploaded from Wikimedia Commons, using the pseudonym "Russkis" as the author. As can be seen here, the pseudonym of the original creator is MGA7. Looking at his user page discloses that he lives in Denmark and his first forename (given name) is Michael ... but his surname is not disclosed. I have posted a message on his user talk page here, asking him if he would give me his real surname and I am awaiting a response. If he should fail to respond or responds negatively, then regretfully the image will need to be removed from Citizendium. Milton Beychok 06:08, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Fair Use rationale

The image is used to identify the International Organization for Standards. The significance of the logo is to help the reader identify the organization, assure the readers that they have reached the right article containing critical commentary about the organization, and illustrate the organization's intended branding message in a way that words alone could not convey. The entire logo is used to convey the meaning intended and avoid tarnishing or misrepresenting the intended image. The logo is of a size and resolution sufficient to maintain the quality intended by the organization, without being unnecessarily high resolution. Because it is a logo there is almost certainly no free equivalent. Any substitute that is not a derivative work would fail to convey the meaning intended, would tarnish or misrepresent its image, or would fail its purpose of identification or commentary.
