The San Diego Padres are a Major League Baseball team based in San Diego, California. The team was founded in 1969 as an expansion team in the National League. [1] [2] [3]
Championships
The team has never had a championship-winning season where they won the World Series. They were National League champions, but lost in the World Series, 2 times, in 1984 and 1998. [4]
Locations and Nicknames
The team has been based in the San Diego area since its inception in 1969. They have played their home games at the following stadiums. [5] [6] [7] [8]
- 2004-present: Petco Park
- 1969-2003: Qualcomm Stadium (Originally named San Diego Stadium, renamed Jack Murphy Stadium 1981, renamed Qualcomm Stadium 1997)
They have been known as the San Diego Padres for their entire history.
