Media on the Citizendium is categorized two ways:
- By "class"
- "High-free" — Templates with green backgrounds are used to tag media considered High-free—media under varied licenses that allow both derivatives and commercial usages.
- "Intermediate-free" — Templates with yellow backgrounds are used to tag media considered Intermediate-free—media under varied licenses that in some way restrict either or both derivatives and commercial usages.
- "Non-free" — Templates with red backgrounds are used to tag media considered Non-free—media that is generally copyrighted and used by permission and that in some way restrict usages outside of the Citizendium.
Templates with blue backgrounds are considered Informative—these in some way inform about additional information or requests.
