This is a list of presidents of Brazil.
Notes:
- The first two presidents were military engaged on the fall of monarchy.
- The period from 1893 to 1930 is called Velha República, old republic, a time when the elections were highly suspicious. The candidates were chosen mostly by the elites of São Paulo and Minas Gerais States, in turns. All presidents of this period, but Epitácio Pessoa, were Lawyers graduated at Universidade de São Paulo. The other one was also a Lawyer.
- The dictatorship period from 1930 to 1945 is called Estado Novo. The dictator, by demagogic means, had plenty of support from the people.
- Between 1945 and 1961 Brazil experienced its first democratic period.
- When Janio Quadros renounced, fearing the left believes of the vice-president, the elites changed the system was to parliamentary through a sort of covered coup. This lasted from 1961 to 1964.
- The period from 1964 to 1985 is called, The Military Revolution of 90 Period. President Sarney was indirectly elected as the Vice President of Tancredo Neves according to the rules set by the revolutionary Presidents.
- After 1985 and on Brazil is experiencing a highly democratic period, despite some claims of corruption.
