The Qur'an
Some major translations:
- The Meaning of the Glorious Koran (1930) by Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: translated by a native English-speaking Muslim; this translation was officially endorsed by the Shaykh ul-Azhar, the most respected authority in Sunni Islam
- The Holy Qur'an: Translation and Commentary (1934) by Abdullah Yusuf Ali: this has generally been the most popular translation
- The Koran Interpreted (1955) by Arthur Arberry: a respectful translation by a non-Muslim scholar; conveys something of the literary force of the original; long recommended by scholars
