The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), founded in 1999, exists, according to its official web site, in order to "promote, coordinate, and monitor the fight against doping in sport". An international, independent organization, WADA is funded in equal measure by sports bodies and governments. WADA's 2007 operating budget was approximately $23 million (U.S. dollars). Since its founding, WADA has developed and implemented the World Anti-Doping Code designed to harmonize anti-doping policies in all sports world-wide.
