Côte d'Azur

The Côte d'Azur (French: Côte d'Azur, Occitan: Còsta d'Azur, that is ‘Azure Coast’) is a famous tourist region along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, in eastern Provence (France) and in Monaco, stretching between the cities of Cassis and Menton (or between Hyères and Menton, according to other sources). In English, the Côte d'Azur may be called also the “French Riviera” but such a name is erroneous since Monaco does not belong to France and, furthermore, this name is locally unused. The Côte d'Azur is continued eastward by the Italian Riviera.

The largest cities of the Côte d'Azur are Nice and Toulon. Famous and beautiful towns align like pearls on the seashore, from west to east: Cassis, Toulon, Hyères, Saint-Tropez, Fréjus, Saint-Raphaël, Grasse, Cannes, Antibes, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Nice, Monaco and Menton.
