History
"The Village at Purcell Store" was settled in 1764, and in 1852 it was renamed Purcellville. The town was incorperated by the Virginia General Assembly in 1908. A small town with a friendly atmosphere, the influence of Victorian architecture is visable in the older buildings that make up much of the down-town area. Purcellville was a stop on the WO&D rail line from 1874-1968. The past of the rail line is now a 32 mile long National Recreational Trail, running from Purcellville to Alexandria. [1]
Government
The town is governed by a Mayor and 6 Town Council members. The Mayor serves a 2 year term, while the Council members, elected at-large, serve staggered 4 year terms [2]. Agendas and minutes of Council meetings can be found here
