As far as I know, "The" was not part of the name, any more than it was of the "Local Defence Volunteers".
It might be worthwhile to cross-reference to the ground observer corps of the Battle of Britain, who actually had a critical role -- after the Germans crossed the coast, observers were the primary way the air defense tracked their flights.
There were also some elite stay-behind units that had cover identities. --Howard C. Berkowitz 21:30, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
Dealt with the Aux units. You correct that it was the HOME GUARD. Cheers for the advice.Steven Slater 23:51, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
I moved it to take out the 'the', but now seem to have also lost some metadata.Steven Slater 00:03, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
What is missing? It seems correct to me.
My copy of Anthony Cave Brown's Bodyguard of Lies, which has material both on Home Guard and Aux Units, is somewhere on the shelf; there are some other references for which I'll have to search.--Howard C. Berkowitz 01:55, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
