Chicago White Sox
The Chicago White Sox are a Major League Baseball team based in Chicago, Illinois. The team was founded in 1901 as one of the inaugural teams in the American League. Known as the White Stockings at first, they quickly changed it to the White Sox after local media started shortening it for the purposes of writing headlines. [1] [2]
Championships
The team has had a total of 3 championship-winning seasons in the modern era (1901 and later) of major-league baseball, winning the World Series in 1906, 1917, and 2005. They were also American League champions, but lost in the World Series, 2 times, in 1919 and 1959. Prior to the start of the modern World Series in 1903, the team won the American League title in 1901, the league's first year. [3] [4]
