Walking into Clarksdale is a studio album by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, both formerly of English rock band Led Zeppelin. It was released by Atlantic Records on 21 April 1998.
Overview
Following the success of their re-teaming on 1994's No Quarter: Jimmy Page and Robert Plant Unledded, Page and Plant released their first album of original material together in eighteen years, which took 35 days to record. The original working title for this project was Most High, which explains the angelic boys on the front cover taken by renown photographer Anton Corbijn. The album was recorded and mixed by indie producer Steve Albini, and was a deliberate attempt to capture a raw lo-fi production mood away from previous albums. The single 'Most High' was awarded a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1999. Clarksdale is a town in the Mississippi Delta, a historical home of Delta blues music.
The album debuted on the Billboard's Billboard 200 album chart at number 8, while reaching number 3 on the UK Album Chart. 'Most High' and 'Shining in the Light' were released as singles, with a music video for the former. 'Most High' also featured 'The Window' as a B-side. The single 'Most High' reached number 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Plant re-recorded the song 'Please Read the Letter' with Alison Krauss for their 2007 collaboration album Raising Sand, which won a Grammy for Record of the Year. The Japanese version includes a bonus track 'Whiskey from the Glass'.
