The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, informally the Foreign Secretary, is the United Kingdom's foreign minister, the public face of foreign policy at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). This is the most senior position in the government of the United Kingdom after the Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The current Foreign Secretary is Philip Hammond of the Conservative Party, as part of the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government; his predecessor was William Hague. Before the general election of 2010 the office was held by David Miliband of the Labour Party.
