Fallujah is a city in Anbar Province, Iraq, roughly 40 kilometers west of Baghdad on the Euphrates River. Two major battles of the Iraq War were fought there, the Second Battle of Fallujah being exceptionally bloody, a large part of the civilian population having left.
Under Saddam Hussein, it prospered as an industrial center, with a largely Sunni population.
