Compression ratio [r]: The ratio of the full volume of a combustion cylinder in an internal combustion engine to its volume of air-fuel mixture when fully compressed at the end of the compression stroke. It is a fundamental specification for most automotive internal combustion engines and typically ranges from about 7:1 to about 10:1. [e]
