Animal parts that are edible and useful as food to humans, including muscle, skin, organs, connective tissue, and fat, and generally excludes bone, hair, and other hard parts. Before being cooked, it's raw. The term sometimes can apply to fish and sometimes it's restricted to herd animals such as cows, deer, poultry, and so forth.
