American Institute of Homeopathy

Established in 1844, before the American Medical Association, the American Institute for Homeopathy describes itself as a "trade association of medical and osteopathic physicians, dentists, advanced practice nurses and physician assistants dedicated to the practice, promotion and improvement of homeopathic medicine." The organization's Frequently Asked Questions discusses homeopathic physicians as " having experienced three years of homeopathic medical practice, medical or osteopathic physicians are eligible to seek candidacy for examination by the separately incorporated homeopathic medical specialty certifying board, the American Board of Homeotherapeutics (1960)." The FAQ does not address homeopaths who do not have one of the established general medical or nursing professions listed above; it does not address practitioners, licensed or unlicensed, who are trained only in homeopathy, or other than conventional medicine (e.g., naturopathy with homeopathy). Only professionals with a MD, DO, or DDS degree are eligible to be Active Members; advanced practice nurses and physician assistants are eligible to be Associate Members.
