Community Activism is the social process in which individuals advocate, either single or in organisations, for social progress in their localities. It is usually seen as self-empowering and may stem from feelings of powerlessness, marginalisation or from positive feelings such as civic pride. Community activists may call for sweeping change, social justice or simply a neighbourhood cleanup or beautifying a street scape.

Community organisations range from small tenants’ associations to huge charities.
