Marine 1 is a fireboat operated by the city of Syracuse, New York.[1][2]

On August 27, 2018, Marine 1 participated in the rescue of woman who was at risk of dropping from a bridge.[1][2] After firefighter Paul Veri rappeled from the bridge to wear the woman was dangling from a chain, and found her combative and uncooperative firefighters from the fireboat entered the water near where she would fall, if she let go. When she seemed fatigued and about to nod off Veri rappeled down again, and seized her, from behind, before she noticed him. She struggled as firefighters lowered the pair to the water surface, where the firefighters from the fireboat helped restrain her.

The woman bit Veri.[2]

The woman was taken to a local hospital, for evaluation.[2] Veri was also taken to hospital - for blood tests.
