Theodor Eicke (1892-1943) was an SA and SS Gruppenfuehrer, who was the first Inspector of Concentration Camps and later commanded the SS Totenkopf Division, dying in 1943 in a plane crash while active service.

An early Nazi, Heinrich Himmler had him committed to a psychiatric hospital, but, in 1933, released him to Dachau Concentration Camp in 1933. From that position, he reorganized the chaotic structure of camps, created the Totenkopf SS guard force, and was Inspector of Concentration Camps until 1939.

During the Night of the Long Knives purge, with Michael Lippert, he personally killed Ernst Roehm.
