Thanks for changing the general disclaimer, Jason, but I was also talking about the text at the bottom of main page and, for that matter, the text below the edit box (the one I'm typing in right now) could use some appropriate rewording in line with what I gave you before... --Larry Sanger 22:47, 19 January 2007 (CST)

Pictures

Well, if you would care to upload some suitable pictures of your animals- I would love to use them in various animal articles. Could use social interaction pictures especially. Please indicate pure bred (or lack of) status for pictured pets. (Techno status not required but always appreciated - even for dachshunds) Thanks, Nancy Nancy Sculerati 13:26, 28 March 2007 (CDT)

Re: Pictures

Hi Nancy, Since I am possession of close to 250 pictures of our animal family (yes, complete obession) that are already in digital format, Jason has suggested that I do this. I would be happy to upload a few, but I just wanted further clarification on social interaction - do you mean with humans or with other animals?

Thanks! --Kelly Patterson 14:28, 29 March 2007 (CDT)

Difficulties in Uploading Images

Since approximately 23:55 April 4, based on the time used for time stamps in the edit history, I haven't been able to upload any images to the Citizendium. When I select the "Upload file" button in Special:Upload, I receive a "The page cannot be displayed" error message. Based on Special:Newimages, it appears that some contributors have been able to upload images during this period of time. However, I have successfully uploaded an image to Wikipedia on April 8 [1]. Thus, the problem appears to relate, at least to some degree, to the Citizendium's servers and/or their configuration. I would appreciate any assistance you could offer in remedying this problem. Thanks. David Ellis 22:55, 10 April 2007 (CDT)

I emailed David and offered a port trick he can try. Stephen Ewen 22:48, 22 April 2007 (CDT)

Unit testing

Hi. I dashed off a draft for your perusal. My main sources are Martin Fowler's Refactoring and Kent Beck's Extreme Programming. Also, personal experience. My programming speed doubled and my "bug rate" went way down after I started using automated testing. --Ed Poor 08:52, 10 May 2007 (CDT)

Please Remove My Name From CZ

I am withdrawing from CZ. I have blanked my user page, but I cannot figure out how to delete it. Please remove my name from CZ as soon as possible. Frank W Sweet 12:45, 12 May 2007 (CDT)

Lost data help

Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi...you are my last hope....

Jason, I worked for over an hour on dog, "previewed" several times but did not save. I had a system failure and the screen went to one of those DOS type things which tells you that the only thing you can do is shut down and restart. Question is:

a) could I in-any-way-possible find the edits I made somewhere in a temp file on my computer? b)could you in-any-way-possible --scratch that--in any reasonable manner--find them on the wiki? c) is consuming large quantities of alcohol recommended at this point?

Aleta Curry 18:36, 4 June 2007 (CDT)

Just my personal advice--don't be scared of actually pressing the "Save page" button.  :-) --Larry Sanger 18:37, 4 June 2007 (CDT)

Not afraid of "save". It just annoys me when many edits are made in succession without the use of "preview", so I don't do that to other people. Voila the sad result! Aleta Curry 20:41, 4 June 2007 (CDT)

I used to have a little note taped to my PC that said, "Confucius says, 'Only when all data is gone is the necessity for hitting the Save button every five minutes truly learned.'" :-D But seriously, Aleta, that data is gone. If it makes you feel any better, I have had to learn this lesson the hard way. Stephen Ewen 19:02, 4 June 2007 (CDT)

"He who hits 'save' every five minutes on a wiki will seriously **** off other users" :P But yeah, I had the feeling. It's writing in MSWord for me from now on....:) Aleta Curry 20:41, 4 June 2007 (CDT)
  • In conclusion, if there wasn't any data sent to the wiki, we have no record of it. :) Jason Potkanski 15:40, 5 June 2007 (CDT)

One more thing: see http://forum.citizendium.org/index.php/topic,507.0.html for various off-wiki editing methods, some simple, some not so simple. Stephen Ewen 17:18, 5 June 2007 (CDT)

Align environment in math tags

Hi Jason. You said in a forum post last May that you would work that week on upgrading to MediaWiki 1.10. This would have been very useful for us mathematicians (and scientists), because one of the things included in that version is better support for <math> tags. However, this has not materialized. I just had a look at one feature introduced in version 1.10 (the preference "Don't show page content below diffs" under the "misc" tab, r19141) and saw that it did not appear on our website, so it seems that you did not manage the upgrade. I know that just maintaining the servers is a hell of a job, but I wonder whether there is anything I can do to help with upgrading at least the maths part?
