Mac OS X is a propietary, Unix-based operating system developed by Apple Inc. Based on BSD-Unix with a development interface and a userinterface based on the dead OPENSTEP operating system from NeXT, it has become the most popular Unix in the world. Parts of the MAC OS X are open source and contribute to the open source project of Darwin.
