Named for the Battle of San Jacinto in the War of Texan Independence, USS San Jacinto (CG-56) is a cruiser of the U.S. Navy's Ticonderoga-class, homeported in Norfolk, Virginia. She is normally assigned to Carrier Strike Group 12, built around the USS Enterprise (CVN-65).

She is of the Baseline 2 production series of the class, but was first with the the AN/SQQ-89(V)3 integrated ASW suite, with AN/SQS-53B hull-mounted sonar, AN/SQR-19 towed array sonar, and the Mk 116 Mod 6 underwater fire control system.

In the Gulf War, San Jacinto was designated a "special weapons platform", with all of her vertical launch system (VLS) tubes loaded with BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missiles, so she was totally focused on land attack.
